Course Description:

Confidently assess your patient’s foot and lower limb function and pathology. Rationalize and justify patient treatment including the appropriate prescription of Formthotics.

Normal foot mechanics is essential for improvement in performance and the reduction of injuries in the active patient. The subtalar joint is the torque convertor of the lower limb. In addition, the mid-tarsal joint acts as a shock absorbing mechanism. Lower limb overuse injuries have been correlated to abnormal mechanics of the foot and ankle.

This course will review the anatomy and mechanics of the foot and ankle as it pertains to the lower kinetic chain function including balance, stability, and power. Several different types of lower extremity dysfunctions, including ACL rehab, Patella and Achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, soleus syndrome, and Foot orthotic intervention and prescription will be discussed in detail. Implementation of rehabilitation programs individualized according to evaluative findings will be reviewed/ discussed and demonstrated in case studies, utilizing the research-based findings discovered through the course.

Each attendee will fit or be fitted with a pair of Formthotics custom medical orthotics in their own shoes, to become familiar with the patient experience, and with wearing foot orthotics.
